CHANGE OF PLAN
I have decided not to go on to the Free Rider Problem, but instead to launch into a lengthy and detailed analysis of John Rawls' famous book, A Theory of Justice. There are two reasons for this decision: First, when I started to write my discussion of the Free Rider Problem, I found that I had very little useful to say about it that had not already been said in my article on Elster. Second, since an analysis of Rawls is, in some sense, the real payoff for everything we have been doing, I thought I ought to get to it right away. If anyone is interested, after I finish talking about Rawls, I will be happy to answer questions about or expand on my treatment of Elster.
